“Cosplay” is a term that refers to dressing up as your favorite cartoon character or superhero. It mainly refers to fans who try to imitate the looks of anime or manga characters (Japanese cartoons and comic books, respectively) but the practice has also spread to other popular franchises such as Star Wars, Star Trek, and the Marvel universe.

While cosplay events are essentially costume parties, a lot of time and effort is spent to get as accurate an imitation as possible. Even then, cosplayers only do this for special events like comic conventions or movie premieres. But YouTube channel Barcroft TV introduces us to a British woman named Jade Smith. Princess Jadette, as she’s known to her online fans, started out as a regular cosplayer but got so hooked on the Japanese lolita look that she dresses up like a doll every day!

Lolita refers to a fashion subculture in Japan that emulates Victorian and Edwardian children’s clothing. It takes Jade up to four hours to dress up every day and she’s gotten mixed reactions from family and strangers alike. Even if she hasn’t undergone plastic surgery (which she still plans to get in the future), it still costs her a lot of money to maintain her lifestyle.
