True love knows no boundaries, and here, one unexpected couple is proving just that. Almeda Errell is a 72-year-old woman who has fallen in love with a man over 50 years her junior. Despite their massive age difference, the grandmother maintains that she is happier than ever before. Unfortunately, not everyone in the family approves of the relationship, but it didn't stop the two from marrying just two weeks after the meeting.

Age gap. For the most part, people tend to marry within their age bracket. It’s not unusual for couples to be a couple of years apart, but for Almeda and her partner Gary, the age gap is more than just a few years— it’s a few decades.

Meeting. According to the Mirror UK, the couple met after Errell’s son Robert died unexpectedly. They both attended the funeral but only spoke briefly. A couple of weeks later, however, they reunited at a kid’s birthday party and hit it off.

Not intimidated. “We met at Chuck E Cheese, there was a birthday party there. I looked into his eyes and I just fell in love. I knew he was the one I wanted to spend my life with. I was never intimidated by the age at all,” said Errell, as reported by the Mirror UK.

A type. Gary Hardwick was only 17 when the pair met, but already had experience dating elderly women. Not long before meeting Errell, he said he’d broken up with a woman who was aged 77. Just a couple of weeks after dating, he asked Errell to marry him.

Chemistry. “The first thing that attracted me to Almeda was her beautiful, gorgeous blue eyes. And her personality. She’s always full of laughter and we just connected so well. The chemistry was great,” said Hardwick, as reported by the Mirror UK.

Wedding. The couple went on to have a small wedding and have now been married for two years, and live in Tennessee. Hardwick maintains that he and his wife have the same interests even though they grew up in entirely different eras.

Age bracket. “I never feel as though I’m missing out on anything by being married to Almeda. I’m really mature for my age, I do not fit into the young age bracket at all. I’ve never been attracted to younger women,” continued Hardwick.

Disapproval. Unfortunately, not everyone was on board with not just the couple’s relationship, but with their decision to get married so soon. But their relatives, which include Errell’s six grandchildren, are slowly but surely getting used to the newest member of the family.

Friend. “I only called him Grandfather once and it was when I was drunk. In my head, I see him as a friend more than a Grandfather. But you know, our Grandmother is happy,” said Aaron, Errell’s 22-year-old grandson.

Accepting. The grandchildren are perhaps more accepting than Errell’s own children because of the fact that they are more on board with the changing times. However, Errell says one of her sons hasn’t spoken to her since the start of her relationship with Hardwick.

Weird. “For me personally, whenever they first got together it was a little bit weird. But I mean, we live in the 21st century and those things really shouldn’t matter. My mom, on the other hand, is very outspoken, because you know there’s an age difference between him and my mom too so it’s a little weird to see your mother walking around with someone the same age as your own kids,” said 17-year-old Indiana.

YouTube. It seems the couple don’t care about what other people think of them, and are more than willing to share bits of their relationship through their YouTube channel. They have nearly 50,000 followers who love to keep up with their lives.

Videos. "One of the things we love to do together is film videos for our YouTube channel. We do vlogs, reaction videos, and pranks. And as far as I know, we are the biggest age gap couple that are YouTubers,” said Hardwick.

Breaking the stigma. Aside from sharing their lives with other people, the couple also hopes to break the stigma that comes with dating someone with a large age gap. After all, you can’t help who you fall in love with.

Inspiration. “We want to pursue our dreams on YouTube and be able to inspire more and more people every day that age is just a number – it should not matter. As long as you’re in love with that person, you should follow your heart and be happy and be yourself,” said Hardwick, as reported by the Mirror UK.
