The word dementia comes from a Latin word meaning madness. It can be considered as a non-specific illness syndrome where the areas of the brain concerned with memory, language, attention and problem solving are severely affected. According to the WHO, Alzheimer’s disease accounts for 60–70% of dementia cases. You can follow these steps to prevent the onset of this condition.

Vitamin D: 

Deficiency of Vitamin D is one of the main causes of dementia. Sun makes our body to produce Vitamin D. You can include food that is rich in Vitamin D e.g. salmon, yogurt, sardines etc.


Omega-3: 

Omega 3 fatty acids are good for the cognitive development of a child or an adult. Research proves that omega-3 improve symptoms in early stages of dementia and prevent the risk of developing the condition if your diet is rich in this compound.

Green Vegetables:

Leafy greens proved to have a good effect on cognitive function. You can add them to your diet.


Take Proper Sleep: 

Lack of sleep can cause dementia. Duration of uninterrupted sleep means a lot. So try to fix your schedule for sleeping.

Mental Activities: 

To keep your mind active you should play puzzle games, crosswords. Sit back, relax and had a word with the people around. Communicating with friends is good for your mental health.


Physical Activities: 

Don’t be lazy and sit idle all the time. Do exercises, or walk daily to help your mind to get relax.
