True love can best be seen through the smallest of gestures. Cuddling in bed after a long day, falling asleep together in front of the TV, or even popping each other’s pimples. It’s those little moments of intimacy that make a relationship. And Amanda Oleander is perfectly aware of that and it’s what inspires her to create art.

Amanda Oleander is an artist and illustrator based in Los Angeles. She achieved international success and recognition when she worked for E! Entertainment illustrating their articles. Since then the 28-year-old has also become somewhat of a viral sensation. She started broadcasting her artistic process on live-streaming app Periscope and gathered over half a million followers.

Amanda’s work is inspired by her own relationship, as well as by the relationships of her friends and family. She and her boyfriend Joey Rudman have been dating for over two years now.

Amanda’s style is influenced by artists like Amedeo Modigliani, Alice Neel, Picasso and Tim Burton, and by her favorite ’90s cartoons, such as Rugrats and The Wild Thornberrys. She spoke about her drawings in an interview for the HuffPost.

“They are all situations that have happened in my relationship or situations my family and friends share with me,” she said. “They will be talking and then I say, ‘Hold that thought!’ and quickly write it down before I forget.”

Amanda likes drawing animals as well, especially endangered species, and she collaborates with Greenpeace and The World Wild Life Fund. However, she finds human behavior absolutely fascinating.

“I’m enthralled by the way people behave behind closed doors,” the artist wrote on Instagram. “Intimate moments we never get to see. Those are moments that can’t really be documented because if they were, it would alter the way the person behaved. So I draw them.”

The aim of her work is to provoke an emotional reaction in the viewer. “I hope it brings them back to a moment in their life or that it triggers a memory. But most of all, I hope it makes people happy,” she told the website.
